Gibraltar 0 Scotland 2 – RECAP

Must read

Here’s how our man Scott Burns rated the players in Faro.

ZANDER CLARK 7

The Hearts keeper won his fourth cap. Had a relatively quiet night. Forced into his first save in first half stoppage time. Didn’t do anything wrong.

ROSS McCRORIE 7

Came into the right-back slot on his Scotland debut. Always looked to get forward and showed he can fill the void left by Hickey and Patterson.

GRANT HANLEY 4

The big defender missed the last internationals. Was straight in. Had more to do in the opposition box than in his own.

RYAN PORTEOUS 7

Went close with a close range effort that was blocked at close range. Never really looked troubled defensively. Always looked to take the ball and start the attacks.

ANDY ROBERTSON 7

The captain played more as left-winger than left back. Charged forward at every opportunity. Involved in the opening goal and a constant threat to Gibraltar.

BILLY GILMOUR 6

The Brighton midfielder. Kept things ticking over in the midfield. Gibraltar didn’t give him much room but you can see him being a big player at Euro 2024.

JOHN MCGINN 6

The Aston Villa midfielder had a quieter afternoon than normal. Took the armband after Robertson went off. Then produced some magic for Che Adams’ goal.

KENNY McLEAN 6

The midfielder is desperate to make sure of his place at Euro 2024 after the heartbreak of his injury that cost him a place at the last Euros.

RYAN CHRISTIE 7

The Bournemouth attacker volleyed over and forced the first save of the first half. He then got the opener just before the hour. A creative spark,

LAWRENCE SHANKLAND 6

Scotland’s player of the year is still waiting for that goal-scoring touch to come back at national level. Certainly wasn’t down to a lack of effort.

JAMES FORREST 7

He made his first Scotland appearance since Euro 2020. Missed a good first half effort. Look lively and showed he still has plenty to offer.

SUBS

Forced the keeper into a decent second half before he hobbled off injured.

The big defender came on to see out the game.

KIERAN TIERNEY (Robertson 66) 2

Wasn’t really troubled.

CHE ADAMS (Forrest 66) 4

Fresh from helping Southampton back to the Premier League. Scored a superb volley.

RYAN JACK (Gilmour 73) 2

A long overdue return for the frozen out former Rangers midfielder.

CALLUM McGREGOR (McLean 73) 2

The Celtic playmaker came on to come some late minutes.
