Getafe hatch Mason Greenwood plan amid Manchester United transfer reveal

Must read

Getafe have made Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler a ‘priority’ loan target this summer as they look to find a replacement for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan last September after United announced that he would recommence his career away from Old Trafford. The Red Devils had completed a six-month internal investigation on Greenwood after charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February 2023.

During his time at Getafe, Greenwood scored 10 goals in 36 appearances and was crowned their Player of the Season for an impressive campaign last month. Reports have suggested that the La Liga outfit want to sign him on a permanent basis while Juventus, Napoli and Borussia Dortmund among the others credited with an interest.

However, in the case Getafe cannot sign Greenwood, they are eyeing up a loan move for Turkey international Guler, who has impressed in the second half of the season with Real. The 19-year-old arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu from Galatasaray for £17million last summer and has scored six times in 12 matches this term.

According to Diario AS, Guler is wanted at the Estadio Coliseum on loan and is viewed as Greenwood’s replacement. However, a stumbling block for Getafe is that Real boss Carlo Ancelotti suggested after the final La Liga game of the season that Guler would remain at the club next season.

He told The Athletic: “There’s no doubt he’ll stay here next year. I think they did very well. They’ve performed well on the pitch. He’s battled, he’s fought. He’s staying next year, there’s no doubt about it.”
