While you may have run around a running track, have you ever run around the Silverstone track? The iconic venue of the British Grand Prix, the Silverstone Circuit is usually reserved for some of the fastest vehicles and drivers in the world. But, this July, some lucky participants in the Red Bull Flying Laps Fitness Challenge can run, walk or cycle a lap of this famous track as well – and enjoy some Formula One drama from the best seats at the Circuit.
What is the Red Bull Flying Laps Fitness Challenge?
To enter the Red Bull Flying Laps Fitness Challenge, you must be based in the UK and complete a 5.9km fitness activity of your choice – whether that’s a run (even with a buggy), a walk or a cycle – and log this on Strava or the Red Bull website. Although 5.9km may seem like an odd distance, this is the length of one lap at Silverstone – the Circuit you may be visiting should you enter the prize draw.
You have until Sunday 23 June to complete the challenge, so lace up those running shoes (or grab your bike) and get moving. First-time runners and elite athletes alike are invited to take part, and everyone has the same opportunity to win.
What prizes are up for grabs?
Flying Laps activity-loggers could win some once-in-a-lifetime experiences through the challenge.
A weekly prize draw will see waves of participants win 4-packs of Red Bull, while 500 participants, chosen at random, will be invited to clock their own 5.9km Flying Laps at the real-life Silverstone Circuit this summer on Saturday 20 July.
But, for three lucky participants – again chosen at random – a pair of Red Bull Pole Position tickets to the 2024 British Grand Prix at Silverstone await. Whether you’re a Formula One enthusiast or not, this will be quite a place to make a pitstop and celebrate your 5.9km effort.
What inspired the Red Bull Flying Laps Fitness Challenge?
Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, the winner of three consecutive Formula One World Drivers’ Championship titles, set the fastest Flying Lap of all time at Silverstone on 2 August 2020. He completed the Circuit in an extraordinarily swift 1:27.097, making history.
While we certainly don’t expect you to run, walk or cycle your 5.9km quite so fast, Verstappen’s record can inspire everyone to push their boundaries with the Red Bull Flying Laps Fitness Challenge this year.
To log your own Flying Lap and find out more about the challenge, visit the dedicated Strava page or Red Bull website.
