George Groves Predicts Anthony Joshua-Daniel Dubois: “He Really Backs Himself Now” – Seconds Out

Must read

Anthony Joshua looks set to face off with Daniel Dubois in his return to Wembley Stadium.

The Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time world champion has been carving a route back to the titles, and Dubois, Interim IBF Champion, could be the perfect dance partner.

The sanctioning body is thought to be considering forcing undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk to vacate its belt due to a rematch with Tyson Fury preventing him fulfilling his mandatory duties.

Should that be the case, Joshua-Dubois is a go and the pair will battle it out for the full title.

Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, former super-middleweight world champion George Groves said he liked the match-making.

“I’m excited about that fight. I think it’s a great fight. Both guys are in great form. Anthony Joshua seems to have had a new lease of life under Ben Davison. His last fight was pretty good, albeit against a cage fighter.

Daniel Dubois, he got caught a lot against Hrgovic but he weathered the storm and broke his heart. Gassed him out and got rid of him – cuts in the end but it felt like Dubois was gonna get him. We’ve seen an improved Dubois of late.”

‘Saint’ George makes Joshua the favourite based on his experience at the top level, but warns people not to count young Dubois out.

“It’s an interesting fight. If you think Anthony Joshua walks that fight then, that’s not really wise. Do you make Joshua the favourite? Sure, but I think Dubois is certainly in with a shot in that fight. He’s improving fight-on-fight. 26 years of age, confidence under him, punches hard which we know, decent chin that takes the licks. He really backs himself now.”

‘AJ’ will be at a press conference in London this week to officially announce the bout.
