Gavin and Stacey’s Nessa appeared to burst into tears as Ruth Jones and her co-stars were spotted filming her hen do for the upcoming Christmas special

Smithy and Nessa have famously had an on-off relationship over the course of the BBC sitcom, with the show’s 2019 Christmas special ending on a cliff-hanger after she proposed.

And now to add fuel to the fire, cast members Ruth, Joanna Page, Julia Davis, Alison Steadman and Melanie Walters have been seen filming a girls’ night out for Nessa’s hen do.

However, the group of gals looked perturbed in the snaps from filming, suggesting the party does not go quite to plan.

Nessa was seen looking frustrated as she stood outside a bar with best friend Stacey in the scene – before she appeared to start crying.

Fans were given even more clues about the wedding that is set to take centre stage in the Gavin And Stacey Christmas Special, as on-location filming in Barry came to a close on Wednesday.

The cast were spotted boarding the famous Dave’s Coaches to head to the church for the big day, but the bride-to-be herself Nessa was noticeably absent.

Among those who boarded the coach was a dapperly dressed James Corden, casting doubt on whether his character Smithy and Ruth Jones’ Nessa are set to tie the knot.

The scenes were the last filmed by the cast while on-location at the famous Barry Island, with work on the show’s last ever episode set to continue at other spots in the coming weeks.

Viewers are eager to see if they will finally get the happy ending they had hoped for in the last ever episode, set to air on Christmas Day.

In a humorous twist fitting of the shows beloved antics, the wedding party appeared to have hit an unexpected snag, getting stuck in the mud while en route to the ceremony.

Onlookers watched as the party was towed out of a field, adding some real-life comedy to the day’s events.

Among those who could be seen aboard the coach was Joanna Page as Stacey Shipman and Mathew Horne as her husband Gavin.

Joining them was Larry Lamb, who plays Gavin’s father Mick, and Melanie Walters as Stacey’s mother Gwen West.

On Wednesday, the cast confirmed that they had finished filming scenes on the famous Trinity Street, which acts as the backdrop for the homes of both Stacey and Gavin, her mother Gwen and uncle Bryn.

‘You haven’t seen anything because we’ve been indoors, which shows you’re true committed fans of the show and we hope that you won’t be disappointed on Christmas Day, when all will be revealed,’ Ruth Jones told fans.

‘This is our farewell now to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won’t be seeing us here anymore but we’ve had a wonderful 17 years, it’s been fantastic.’

James Corden added: ‘Thank you very much to everyone, we’ll see you soon.’

It comes after it was reported that bosses were forced to implement extra security measures to keep the Christmas special plot under wraps after a huge element of the script was leaked.

The cast and crew have been filming the last ever episode of the sitcom, set to air on Christmas Day, in Barry – drawing hundreds of fans to the set.

Bosses are said to have ramped up security after a photo was taken of James, who plays Smithy, holding the script, which contained the plot detail, while filming in a department store.

After the setback, producers are said to have warned the rest of the cast to be careful, especially with filming bringing so many fans to Barry.

‘Everyone is excited for the return of Gavin, Stacey, Smithy and the gang so naturally interest is at an all-time high,’ a source told The Sun

‘Every day fans are flocking to the filming sites in Cardiff and Barry Island to see the cast filming and take their own photos and selfies.

‘It’s a challenge trying to keep key storylines under wraps but the cast have been reminded to be on alert.’

The BBC declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.
