gamescom 2024: The Biggest Announcements So Far – IGN

gamescom 2024 is in full swing, with some of the biggest video game announcements of the year already making their way out of the event. The show kicked off with Opening Night Live yesterday, and we’ve already received a ton of exciting news and game reveals from the show. Now, to follow up the opening act, Xbox is having daily livestreams to talk more about their upcoming releases in depth.

To help guide you through the biggest reveals of the event, we’ve put together a list of some of the most exciting announcements, trailers, and news from the show so far. Borderlands 4 Confirmed

Hot off the heels of the Borderlands movie comes the announcement that Borderlands 4 is indeed happening and it will come out sometime in 2025. The game was announced with a teaser trailer that apparently contains several secrets that fans may not catch on their first watch.

Although the title of the game is Borderlands 4, it’s actually going to be the 8th game in the Borderlands series.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 Release Date Announced

Fans of the Civilization games will be happy to know that not only did we get to see gameplay of the upcoming game for the first time, we actually have a confirmed release date. Civilzation 7 will be launching on February 11, 2025 on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The deluxe edition will be available to play 5 days early,

Amazon’s Secret Level Series Trailer

One of the most popular reveals Opening Night Live was an upcoming Amazon series called Secret Level. It’s an animated anthology series from the creators of Love, Death, and Robots that focuses on a series of new short stories from some of the most popular video games.

Secret Level will include 15 episodes total that will feature stories from games like God of War, Warhammer 40K, and plenty more. We have a breakdown of every video game we saw in the trailer above if you’re curious about which ones are featured.

Indianna Jones and the Great Circle Release Date Announced

We got another update about the much-anticipated Indianna Jones game during ONL. The game is set to be released on December 9 on Xbox Series X/S and PC. It was also announced that a PS5 version is currently in development, but it isn’t set to release until Spring 2025. Xbox boss Phil Spencer went into some additional detail about the decision to launch the game on PS5 as well.

All-Digital Xbox Series X Release Date

All the power of an Xbox Series X, but without a disc drive.

Although it wasn’t necessarily announced at gamescom, Xbox revealed two new Xbox Series X consoles and one new Xbox Series S console today. The new consoles were outlined on Xbox Wire alongside the release dates of the All-digital consoles in Robot White. These new editions to the Xbox lineup will arrive on October 15, 2024.

All three of the consoles are now available to preorder and will cost less than the versions with disc drives installed.

Genshin Impact Is Coming to Xbox

Genshin Impact has been a very popular game for quite some time, and it will be finally coming to the Xbox platform. Previously, Genshin Impact has only been available on PC, PlayStation, and mobile devices, so the news that it’s coming to Xbox is fairly significant for anyone looking to play on their Microsoft console. The game is set to arrive on Xbox Series consoles on November 20, 2024.

The Next Dying Light Game Has Been Announced

A third entry in the Dying Light series has officially been announced. Dying Light: The Beast does not currently have a release date, but we did find out that the original protagonist, Kyle Crane, will return as a playable character in the new game.

Goat Simulator: Remastered Announced

It was announced during ONL that the original Goat Simulator game is getting an official remaster, simply titled: Goat Simulator: Remastered. There are already a surprising number of Goat Simulator games available, but the remaster of the popular game from 2014 will be more than just improved graphics. All of the DLC that has been released for the game will also be available as part of the new version, including one DLC that was only previously available on the mobile version.

New Mario Kart LEGO Sets Announced

The LEGO group announced today that Mario Kart is getting six official LEGO sets. The new sets will be released on January 1 featuring iconic characters from the franchise. While there have been quite a few Mario LEGO collaborations as part of the LEGO Nintendo lineup, this is the first time the Mario Kart franchise has been represented.

These new sets are currently being shown off on the show floor of gamescom 2024.

New Fallout Merch Available

The success of the Fallout TV series on Amazon has spurred a whole line of popular merch for fans to buy and preorder, some of which were announced alongside gamescom. You can now preorder a set of new Fallout Pins, the official Fallout Vault 76 Hoodie, and a Sole Survivor action figure.

All of these items are currently available to preorder from the IGN Store alongside a ton of other cool Fallout merch.
