It appears that finally, almost a year after completing its acquisition of Activision, Microsoft is adding a previously released Call of Duty game—2023’s Modern Warfare III—to its Netflix-like subscription service. And you won’t have to wait long.

We’ve known since May that the Black Ops 6, the next major installment in Activision’s mega-popular FPS series Call of Duty, will launch day one on Game Pass. But what has been more atxt of mystery is when past CoD games, like the OG Black Ops, World at War, and Modern Warfare, will be added to the increasingly more expensive (and complicated) tiers of Xbox Game Pass. According to a new report, it seems 2023’s MW3 will become the first Call of Duty game to land on Game Pass.

On July 22, Insider Gaming corroborated multiple rumors from various insiders claiming that Xbox would bring Modern Warfare 3 (not to be confused with 2009’s Modern Warfare 3) to Game Pass on July 24. It’s expected that Microsoft and Activision will officially announce the news on Tuesday, though with it leaking out ahead of schedule it’s possible Xbox will change plans and tease MW3 on Game Pass later today.

Modern Warfare 3 is far from a fan-favorite Call of Duty installment, with many complaining about its extremely short and not very good singleplayer campaign. In her review, Kotaku’s Claire Jackson called it a “largely unsatisfying” experience. Hopefully, Activision will add better Call of Duty games to Game Pass in the near future.

This new Insider Gaming report, which has yet to be confirmed by Xbox, lines up with previous reports that other Activision games, like the Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, will be added to the Game Pass in August.

Earlier this month, Xbox announced plans to increase the price of Game Pass while also killing the cheaper console-only tier that provided players with Day One releases. Game Pass is now a much pricier and more complicated deal than it was just two years ago and knowing which games will be included with which tiers now requires a spreadsheet and some research. This recent price increase is likely a result of Xbox preparing to add more Activision games, like Black Ops 6, to the service. News of the price increase was flagged by the FTC as an example of “exactly the sort of consumer harm” the agency was trying to stop.
