Mobile phone enthusiasts far and wide are looking forward to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable flagship phone hitting the stage at the next Unpacked event. The latter should be hosted in Paris in early July, a few weeks before the 2024 Olympic Games start. So far, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has miraculously managed to avoid getting leaked in photos, but one design detail appears to have emerged.

Even though the Galaxy Z Fold 6 camera hardware might not see any significant upgrades, Samsung might change some small design details around the lenses. Namely, the rings surrounding the rear-facing cameras could have a more prominent ridged design, according to a new tip from X user @UniverseIce.

The image above, shared by the X user, is accompanied by the caption “the camera detail design of [the] Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.”

It’s unclear if this photo shows an actual Galaxy Z Fold 6 camera element, a dummy unit, or a completely different phone that has a ridged camera ring and was used as an example of what the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s main camera rings could look like.

The first time Samsung could use this design

Samsung transitioned from camera housings to individual camera rings and cutouts a few years ago. However, the Galaxy Z Fold is the only premium Samsung phone series that still has a bit of a hump around all of its rear-facing cameras.

Early unofficial CAD renders indicate that won’t change with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but this new leak suggests that the camera rings protruding out from the camera housing will be refreshed.

There are also reports that Samsung could release a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra model, and if it does, it remains to be seen if both the standard and the Ultra will share the camera ring design.

Aside from camera specs, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might have a boxier design with a possibly wider cover screen. The foldable screen could also have a less visible crease. Samsung should unveil the phone on July 10 at Unpacked.

Editor’s Note: To our knowledge, Samsung has never used a ridged design for camera rings before. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 would be a first. In general, these ridges can reflect light in interesting ways and create a more premium feel if done right, but on the other hand, they can also be dust magnets and look a bit outdated and not-so-premium, especially when dirty.
