Galaxy A16 5G has IP54 design, six years of OS updates for 229 euros!

Must read

Just a few hours ago, the Galaxy A16 5G was listed on the Samsung Netherlands website, making the entry-level/lower mid-range A-series phone official after weeks of leaks and rumors. Initially, Samsung didn’t list a price for the phone, but it has now corrected that.

The Galaxy A16 5G has a suggested retail price of €229. The A15 5G had a suggested retail price of around €190-200, so the A16 5G is pretty well priced for the features it provides.

The biggest highlight is the Galaxy A16 5G’s eligibility for software updates for six years. It’s the first non-flagship Galaxy smartphone to be eligible for more than five years of updates. The A15 5G is eligible for four major OS upgrades and five years of security updates, while the new model’s six years of support will include both major OS upgrades and security updates.

The Galaxy A16 5G also brings better protection against the elements. Its design has an IP54 certification, which means it has some level of dust protection and will do fine with water splashes (but not a continuous stream). It’s not as good as the IP67 certification available on more expensive A-series devices, but it is better than no official water and dust protection.

The Galaxy A16 5G sports a 6.7-inch 90Hz Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, the Exynos 1330 processor with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and support for 1.5TB microSD cards, a 5,000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging, 5G connectivity, a 50MP+5MP+2MP (primary, ultrawide, macro) rear camera setup, and a 13MP front camera. It runs Android 14 out of the box, likely with One UI 6.1.

As of October 7, there is no option to actually buy the phone from Samsung, but that should change before the end of the month. We should also see prices for other markets revealed in the coming days.
