Full list of late May bank holiday opening hours for major supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsburys and more

Must read

Another long bank holiday weekend is in full swing and many of us will be out to do some last minute shopping.

The last thing you need is to be caught out by unusual opening hours and many supermarkets up and down the country will be operating on unusual hours for the late May bank holiday.

While smaller shops can open whenever they like, stores over 280 square metres must obey different trading-hour requirements.

However, some exceptions could be in cases of railway, airport and service station stores.

To make sure you are not caught short, see the list of major supermarket opening times below.

On bank holiday Monday, May 27, Tesco stores in England and Wales will mostly be open from 8am to 6pm

For today's bank holiday, larger Asda stores will open at the slightly later time of 8am before closing at 10pm

Tesco

Larger Tesco stores tend to open, Monday to Saturday, at either 6am or 7am, before closing as late as midnight.

However, on bank holiday Monday, May 27, stores in England and Wales will mostly be open from 8am to 6pm, with Scottish stores staying open until 8pm in most cases.

Individual stores’ opening hours may vary, so you can check your local store’s specific times on Tesco’s store locator.

Asda

For today’s bank holiday, larger Asda stores will open at the slightly later time of 8am before closing at 10pm.

However, this will not be universal with some opening as early as 6am.

Scottish Asdas will be open as usual, meaning some will open as early as 6am and close as late as midnight.

Store times can be double-checked on Asda‘s store locator.

Sainsbury’s

For this month’s second bank holiday, most larger Sainsbury’s stores will open at 8am and close 12 hours later at 8pm.

Again, Scotland’s stores may be open later due to different rules north of the border with some set to open until 10pm.

You can check you local Sainsbury’s opening times before you go out on their store locator.

Aldi

Aldi is typically open from 8am to 10pm on a Monday, but for the late May bank holiday stores will only be open as late as 8pm on most occasions.

However, Scottish stores will remain open later as normal.

Double check your local Aldi opening times with their store finder.

Waitrose

The vast majority of Waitrose stores have shorter opening times on Bank Holiday Monday, but times will vary greatly from one to another.

Opening will vary from 7am to 9am, with closing somewhere between 5pm and as late as 10pm.

Shoppers can find which of these different times their local store will operate under on the Waitrose store finder.

Morrisons

Morrisons shops in England and Wales will open at 7am and close at 8pm on May 27.

Scottish shops’ hours are slightly different, like many other supermarkets’, with these stores will open under their normal shopping hours.

Morrisons also have a store finder for customers to check if theirs is in that group.

Lidl

On Bank Holiday Monday, Lidl stores in England which are outside the M25, and in Wales, will be open from 8am to 8pm.

Within the M25, customers can head to their local Lidl between 8am and 10pm.

Stores in Scotland are open as normal, but all customers are advised to check the Lidl store finder for their local store’s opening hours.

Co-op

Co-op’s website says: ‘During bank holidays and special times of year some of our stores may open later and close earlier than normal.’

However, with many Co-ops small enough to be exempt from the restrictions applying to their larger rivals, plenty can stay open as usual on the bank holidays.

Customers can verify whether their local is one of those open as usual with the Co-op store finder online.

M&S

M&S stores appear to be opening at their usual times today, but look set to close an hour or two earlier.

This puts the majority of M&S closing somewhere between 6pm and 9pm.

If you are looking to go to one near you, you can find its opening hours on the M&S store finder.
