Midsomer Murders is back on our screens this Tuesday, July 23, with the third episode in series 23. The latest chapter follows hot on the heels of last week’s The Debt of Lies, which itself came several months after the season opener in April.
In tonight’s gripping episode, titled A Grain of Truth, DCI Barnaby and DS Winter are called to investigate a case involving poisoned rolls from a recently reopened bakery.
The official synopsis teases: “The world of organic baking begins to crumble after a series of incidents at the newly revamped Larkton’s Mill.”
Tonight’s instalment boasts a stellar guest cast including Robert Gilbert as Tom Larkton and Rebecca Night as Chrissie Larkton, with Jo Martin featuring as Denise Bantrig and Paul Chahidi taking on the role of Gabriel Arnson, reports the Mirror.
Who are the guest stars in Midsomer Murders’ A Grain of Truth?
Jo Martin as Denise Bantri
Denise Bantrig, portrayed by Jo Martin, is the feisty landlady of The Highwayman Inn who is less than pleased about the disruption Larkton’s Mill is causing in the village.
Audiences may know Jo from her various roles such as in Doctor Who, The Crouches, and Holby City, where she played the character Max McGerry.
Robert Gilbert as Tom Larkton
Taking on the role of artisan baker Tom Larkton is Robert Gilbert, whose character, along with his patissiere wife Chrissie, has given her family’s charming old water mill a modern makeover.
Robert Gilbert may be familiar to viewers from his performances in hit shows like Killing Eve, Insomnia, and Red Eye, as well as his appearance in Big Modd alongside Nicola Coughlan.
Paul Chahidi as Gabriel Arnson
Paul portrays Gabriel, the chief miller who rescues Chrissie from a near-death experience. Paul has featured in numerous shows including Chad, The Serpent Queen, This Country and Good Omens.
Rebecca Night takes on the role of Chrissie Larkton.
Despite being raised in the village, Rebecca’s character Chrissie hasn’t been warmly received upon her return. Rebecca is recognised for her performances in The Sandman and Starlings, as well as Wuthering Heights.
A Grain of Truth also features guest appearances from Martin Trenaman as Silas Bantrig, Jola Jassy as Claire Simkins, Chris Coniston as Ricky Naybury, Flaminia Cinque as Maria Cignoni, and Harry Taurasi as Bobby Cignoni.
The cast also includes Russell Floyd as Jack Duncroft, Geoffrey Lumb as Nathan Duncroft, Laila Rouass and Vanessa Debouverie.
Neil Dudgeon reprises his role as DCI John Barnaby, alongside Nick Hendrix as DS Jamie Winter, Fiona Dolman as Sarah Barnaby, and Annette Badland as Fleur Perkins.
