For many, the concept of fitness and the name SapnaVyas are synonymous, primarily because Sapna has been a name to be reckoned with in the fitness, health and weight loss industry for a decade. A health and life coach, a columnist, and a TEDx speaker, Sapna takes pride in being eager to learn new things and step out of her comfort zone. And that, she said, is one of the reasons she’s stepped into the world of cinema. The soon-to-debut Sapna, however, isn’t camera shy as she’s faced the spotlights before.

“I have done two shows in the past — BaatonBaaton Mein with SapnaVyas and Wah Gujarati Wah — and both catered to Bollywood actors and actresses,” shared Sapna.

However, she takes her first step towards marking an acting debut today with director AsifSelavat’s film based on a father-daughter’s relationship. “It is a unique and interesting story that the Gujarati audience has not witnessed so far. When I was pitched this story, I was bowled over. Both individuals face hardships and challenges, individually and together.

Yet, the father continues to stand by his daughter and is supportive of her decisions and actions,” shared the debutante. The movie is a blend of emotions where Sapna plays the strong, level-headed central character while her father, strong and principled, is also shown to be the more vulnerable one. “Being able to portray the role of a strong female central character was the reason I signed up for the film. I was offered rom-coms earlier but I wanted to do something different, something by which the audience would remember me. I will do rom-coms too, but later.”

Highlighting the male vulnerability, she continued, “Why should men always portray the character of a strong man, pillar of support, family man and someone who cannot cry or seek support? The film shows my father going through a mixed bag of emotions, just like his daughter (in this case, myself). Both characters need each other and support each other. It shows how the modern-day father does not succumb to societal norms and pressures and supports his daughter.”

Directed by AsifSelavat, shooting of the film commences on July 8 and will continue for almost two months. The team is looking at a December release, depending on how everything works out.
