Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff has recently made a comeback to screens following a near-fatal crash while filming for BBC’s Top Gear in December 2022.
It’s now been revealed how his wife of 19 years was warned about the terrifying ordeal, with the heartbreaking warning she was issued revealed.
Flintoff, 46, took a television hiatus after his horrifying crash, which left him with series injuries of which he is still recovering from.
The former cricketer opted to stay away from the limelight for a while but returned this week for the second series of his sporting show, BBC’s Field of Dreams.
Ahead of the show’s launch on Tuesday, Flintoff had been opening up about the incident, sharing more of an insight into his injuries and the lasting impact the crash has had on him almost two years later.
The father-of-two joined BBC favourite Top Gear in 2019 alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, but following the accident at the show’s Dunsford Park Aerodrome, no new episodes have aired.

Flintoff’s wife Rachael Wools faced a terrifying wait for updates intermediately following the accident, and the three-word warning she’d been issued has now been detailed.
Wools was told to “expect the worst” after the Morgan Super 3 Flintoff had been driving for the car show flipped over at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey.
He was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries. Speaking to The Sun, a source shared: “The injuries were more severe as the car didn’t have a roof.
“It was a freak accident and somehow the car flipped over and the two men were dragged along. Freddie and the crew member were both wearing helmets, but it was still a severe accident.”

They continued: “Everyone on the scene was shocked by how serious it was and they were very worried about the two men strapped in.”
While he’s overcome the ordeal, Flintoff recently made it clear he has fought both physical and psychological battles as he admitted he’s unsure he well ever feel “completely better” again.
“I’m better than I was, but I don’t know what completely better is,” he confessed. “I genuinely should not be here with what happened,” he reflected in a recent interview as he talked about filming the new Field of Dreams in India.
“It’s going to be a long road back, and I’ve only just started. But I’ve got to look at the positives: I’m still here and I’ve got another chance to have a go at it.”
Speaking to Radio Times, the BBC and other press he went on: “I’m looking forward to seeing the lads and being around them. I really am. This India trip is for me as much as them. I am determined.”

When asked if he was now feeling 100 per cent, he admitted he wasn’t. “I don’t know if I will again, to be honest.
“I’m better than I was, but I don’t know what completely better is.”
Understandably, Field of Dreams’ second series took a backseat as Flintoff focused all his efforts on recovering from his injuries.
While the broadcaster did announce earlier this year that Field of Dreams would return, the corporation only recently confirmed the show will be airing this summer.
