UPDATE 2: Nearly 6 million fans are reported to have logged in to experience the Doctor Doom live event on October 5. With Doctor Doom defeated, things should go back to normal, although Epic has confirmed that matchmaking and login issues remain.
“We’re aware some players are experiencing Matchmaking and Login issues,” reads an Epic post. “We’re working on a fix and will update as we know more.”
UPDATE: The event opens with an extended version of the teaser cutscene, this time showing a giant Doctor Doom laying waste to the island and its inhabitants. Once the cutscene ends, players are tasked with teaming up to take down the gargantuan Doctor Doom. Judging by his health bar, the Doom is Coming event could run for quite a while, with the Marvel villain spawning in every game until he’s defeated.Â
ORIGINAL: Fortnite developer Epic Games has announced plans to hold an in-game event this weekend. The upcoming Fortnite event will see Marvel villain Doctor Doom unleash chaos and destruction within the Battle Royale island. According to a countdown timer that appeared after the release of update 31.30 earlier this week, the Doom is Coming Fortnite event has an October 5 release date and a 7pm BST UK start time (that’s 2pm ET for fans living in the US). We’re not entirely sure what will happen during the event, but based on the teaser trailer further down the page, Doctor Doom will likely make an explosive reappearance in the game. No doubt players will need to team up to foil his plans. Indeed, according to the latest teaser, players are going to need to pay a visit to Stark’s mobile armouries to help overcome Doctor Doom. “Stark’s mobile armouries are pointed as the timer nears zero! We’re going to need your help with this one,” reads an Epic teaser.Â

Needless to say, if you are planning to check out the event live and in person, then you should login around 30 minutes before the start of the festivities.
Indeed, to ensure you don’t get blocked from taking part due to overcrowded servers, it’s worth logging in at around 6.30pm BST.Â
With an hour to go until the start of the event, lobbies are already starting to feel the strain.
“We’re aware the Lobby is loading slowly for some players, as well as leaderboards taking longer to load than usual,” reads an Epic tweet. “We’re working on a fix and will update as we know more.”
Epic Games hasn’t announced plans to replay the event, although Daily Express will keep this article updated with any new information and official announcements.
The news of the event was announced by Epic Games on X, alongside a preview of what to expect.
“Not a Doombot. Not a Henchman. Doom is coming.”
This weekend’s in-game event takes place ahead of this year’s Fortnitemares festivities.
Based on recent leaks, it looks like Fortnitemares will add a spooky Marshmello skin, as well as a Leatherface skin from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the puppet from the SAW movie franchise.
Insiders such as Shiina have also discovered new skins such as Dark Ruby, Knightmare, Shadow Monks and Zain.Â
The new update also added the Shaq skins and items to the game. Confirming previous rumours, former NBA basketball player Shaquille O’Neal and his alter ego DJ Diesel have been given an October 4 release date in the US and an October 5 launch date in the UK.
The Shaq skin, emotes and items will be available when Epic Games refreshes the shop at around 1am BST UK time on October 5.
