Forgotten 90s fashion trend back with a bang thanks to Bridgerton

PUSH-UP bra sales are enjoying a huge uplift — thanks to racy Netflix hit Bridgerton.

Sales of the “Balconette” — giving women the Regency-style silhouette — have soared by 61 per cent.

That makes the bra this year’s fastest-selling lingerie style.

The fashion for showing off a fuller figure has also seen a boost for padded push-up bras — made famous by Wonderbra’s 1994 Hello Boys adverts featuring model Eva Herzigova.

The Balconette, which hit the big time thanks to the likes of Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s, has wide-set straps to lift from below, giving a high and full shape.

Experts say its popularity is being driven by voluptuous Bridgerton stars including Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington.

This month, she declared herself “proud as a member of the perfect breasts community”.

Liz King, from online and catalogue retailer Freemans.com, said: “Boobs are back. Like so many 90s fashions, push-up bras are back in vogue with Gen Z shoppers. Meanwhile, Balconettes are the choice of shoppers wanting sophisticated and elegant styling.”

Sales of high-leg briefs have also jumped by a third. Liz said: “Bigger knickers are the perfect counterbalance to Balconnette bras as they offer comfort, control and a sexy silhouette.”
