Must read

The Foreign Office has given a grim warning to anyone planning on travelling to France in the next month or so – with lots of turmoil ahead. The government’s updated travel advisory on their website flags up the ongoing strife caused by air traffic control strikes and other industrial action already causing disruption.

What’s more, the Foreign Office has now warned that public transport systems could face further hindrance due to additional walkouts slated to continue through to September. This comes hot on the heels of a tumultuous week for airlines, topped off with the abrupt collapse of a leading tour operator, abruptly halting all its July holidays.

Regarding the situation in France, officials from the Foreign Office have advised: “Throughout June, planned industrial action by port worker and air traffic control unions is expected to disrupt some ferry routes and flights across France, with some routes and flights diverted or cancelled.”

They also suggest travellers should: “Check your operator’s advice before travelling, including where you are taking connecting flights. Until September, possible industrial action may cause disruption on the Paris public transport system (RATP). Check the RATP website for live service updates.”

The travel drama doesn’t stop there, as Unite union has publicised impending industrial action at Gatwick Airport, which promises to ratchet up the distress. Up to 300 personnel responsible for security and passenger services are poised to strike, targeting two triple-day stints: from July 12 to 14, and again from July 19 to 21, reports the Express.

A shortage of air traffic controllers has led to numerous cancellations and delays across UK airports on the last few days. Ryanair and Wizz Air have been impacted significantly in the chaos, with Ryanair confirming 60 flight cancellations and another 150 potential delays.
