The Foreign Office has issued a warning to people travelling to Italy. On their gov.uk website, government officials have urged people to be aware of two important things when it comes to travelling around the country.
And if you do not comply, you could risk a hefty fine, which will likely eat away at your spending money. Under their ‘laws and cultural differences’ they state that there are two things people need to be aware of when it comes to personal ID and public transport regulations.
This travel advice also covers Vatican City, they add. The officials say that you need at least one form of ID, and in some cases, two.
They explain “You must always be able to show some form of ID. In most cases a copy of the photo page of your passport should be enough, but you may also be asked for a second form of photo ID. The police will normally ask for your full passport if you are stopped while driving.”
In addition to carrying at least one form of identification, they also urge people to validate their tickets before travelling or risk a hefty fine of up to 500 euros. This can however be slashed to just 50 if you can pay it up front.
They state that before you travel, you need to validate your tickets prior to starting journey. They explain: “Officials patrol public transport and will issue an on-the-spot fine of 100 to 500 euros (reduced to 50 euros if paid immediately) if you do not have a validated ticket.”
