The Foreign Office has changes travel advice for UK tourists heading to France as it warned flights and public transport could be disrupted. The government’s travel advisers have updated the advice for the country as it issued warnings over industrial action and demonstrations taking place.

It warns both flights and ferries could be diverted or cancelled due to industrial action by workers, as well as problems on the Paris public transport system. UK tourists have also been warned they could be caught up in demonstrations with ‘little or no warning’.

An update on Thursday, June 28 reads: “Throughout June, planned industrial action by port workers and air traffic control unions is expected to disrupt some ferry routes and flights across France, with some routes and flights diverted or cancelled.

“Check your operator’s advice before travelling, including where you are taking connecting flights. Until September, possible industrial action may cause disruption on the Paris public transport system (RATP). Check the RATP website for live service updates.”

The Foreign Office alsoissued advice on demonstrations in the country. It said: “Demonstrations, political gatherings, or marches can take place with little or no warning, particularly in cities. Follow the advice of police and local authorities.

“While most demonstrations are peaceful, there is a risk of unrest or violence. If you’re near areas where demonstrations are taking place, stay aware of your surroundings and move away if there are signs of disorder.”

The Foreign Office also warns there is a high threat of terrorist attack in the country in places such as shopping centres, entertainment establishments, at cultural events, on public transport or at places of worship. It urged people to be vigilant in public places and follow the advice of local French authorities.
