For Vintage Fiend Suki Waterhouse, Shopping Looks Different Now She’s A Mum

Must read

Suki Waterhouse is relishing shopping again after giving birth to her baby daughter in March. While vintage shopping with Vogue in LA, she explained that she’s “using the fact that I’ve just had a baby to shop more because I feel like I didn’t get to wear any clothes” during pregnancy, explaining how “you just resort to jogging pants after a while”.

Indeed, during her visit to vintage store Wild West Social House, British Vogue’s August 2024 cover star discovered a floral-print Jean Paul Gaultier dress that she probably wouldn’t have gone for pre-pregnancy. “I never used to have boobs but now I’ve had a baby I have boobs,” the actor and musician says. “I don’t think I ever would have worn this before, but now it could work… Could I be this girl?”

A long-time vintage obsessive, Waterhouse says her love of fashion stems from going to second-hand shops. “Having that experience in store and touching things that are old, is kind of how I learned about fashion in the first place,” she explains.

All that research has paid off, as it’s clear the Daisy Jones & The Six star has an eye for fashion history. She’s the proud owner of an Audrey Hepburn jacket, which she recalls buying at a Christie’s auction when she was “really young. I spent every penny that I had in my account on this jacket.”

While browsing the rails at celebrity favourite Aralda Vintage, Waterhouse spotted the gold fringed Roberto Cavalli dress that Beyoncé wore to the Austin Powers in Goldmember premiere in 2002. “I am obsessed,” she says, on trying on the minidress. “I literally don’t feel worthy.”

It was a delicately beaded Zandra Rhodes dress, though – the cream version of a blush-pink style that Princess Diana wore during a visit to Kyoto in 1986 – that the actor ended up going home with. “I kind of feel like I might have to own this – I’d be owning history,” she explains. “It’s special… it’s Diana.” Here’s hoping we see Waterhouse wearing the gown on the red carpet in the months to come.
