For the First Time, a Nintendo “Tetris” Maniac Has Beaten the Game . . . | 94.5 The Buzz | The Rod Ryan Show

Must read

If you’re wondering what hot video games the kids are playing these days, one of them is “Tetris” . . . the original NES version.

Last year, a 13-year-old in Oklahoma became the first person to beat “Tetris”. The game never really ends, but it eventually freezes up. He made it to Level 157 when it finally crashed. Until then, only A.I. had been able to do it.

But some “Tetris” maniacs are SO hellbent on going farther, that there’s a modified, crash-resistant version of the game.

And last weekend, a 16-year-old kid named Michael Artiaga . . . using the alias “DogPlayingTetris” . . . became the first person to achieve “rebirth.” That’s when you get so far that the game rolls all the way back to the ultra-slow “Level 0.”

Michael’s run took over 80 minutes. He completed 255 levels . . . cleared 3,300 lines . . . and immediately realized that he’d achieved the first mythical rebirth . . . live . . . in front of hundreds of viewers on Twitch.

He FREAKED OUT . . . but even with all the excitement, he was able to keep the game going another 40 minutes, since it was super slow again. He finally topped out with a total of 4,216 lines and a record 29.4 million points.

Afterward, he said, “Oh my god, I’m so glad that game is over, bro. I never want to play this game again, bro . . . I was starting to lose my mind.” No kidding.

(Here’s UNCENSORED video of Michael’s run. He achieves “rebirth” at 1:21:24. And at 2:01:30, he says he could be done with “Tetris” forever.)
