Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reputed to be working on a foldable MacBook computer, but some “technical challenges” may have pushed back the release date, a widely watched analyst said late on Wednesday.
“Due to technical challenges with the display and mechanical, the assembly mass production schedule has been pushed back from 1H26 to the end of 2027 or 2028,” TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Kuo added that the final display size for the foldable computer has been confirmed at 18.8 inches and that the company canceled a design with a larger screen size.
In May, Kuo said that estimated shipments for the aforementioned two sizes of the foldable MacBook could top 1M units.
Apple’s foldable future?
In addition to the foldable MacBook being delayed, Kuo also said there is no “no visibility” from the supply chain into a foldable iPad, which some had expected to be released in 2025.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based tech giant is also reported to be working on a foldable version of its iconic iPhone, with a possible release date as soon as 2026.
Apple is widely expected to unveil new versions of its iPhone and Apple Watch next month and is believed to be working on a redesigned version of its Mac mini computer, which could be released later this year.
