Flights disrupted after threat made to Scottish airport

The force said there was “no evidence” to suggest the threat was credible.

Highlands & Islands Airports (HIAL), which operates and manages Kirkwall Airport, took to X to advise passengers to contact their airline for flight updates.

Operations are now returning to normal, although HIAL advised that there be may some ongoing delays. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.50am today, Saturday, January 4, 2025, police were made aware of a threatening communication made to Kirkwall Airport.

“At this time there is no evidence to suggest the threat was credible. Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”
