Five players Liverpool are tipped to sign in Arne Slot’s first transfer window

Must read

Liverpool are arguably set to enter one of their busiest summer transfer windows for several years – and it could be their most important one at that.

Earlier this week, the Reds welcomed Arne Slot to Anfield as their new head coach. The former Feyenoord boss will succeed Jurgen Klopp, who chose to stand down following the culmination of the Premier League campaign.

Slot officially starts his new job on June 1 and unlike Klopp, he will have less of a say on transfers considering his head coach job title. Nonetheless, the 45-year-old will have a say on who he wants to come into his team for his first season.

Optimism is high that there will not be too big a change in styles from Klopp to Slot. Both men favour a high-pressing game with possession won back as high up the pitch as possible.

This means FSG will feel confident in approaching players even before Slot has entered the building. One key task for Liverpool this summer is to decide on the centre-forward role and whether to stick with Darwin Nunez or not.

Nunez scored 18 goals in 54 appearances last season but it was the chances that he missed which have left some to question his ability. Mohamed Salah has hinted that he will be remaining at Anfield next season despite links to the Saudi Pro League but his end-of-season form was concerning.

So with a couple of key areas potentially needing to be strengthened, the ECHO has taken a look at the latest odds from bet365 to discover who punters are tipping to join Liverpool.

The Wolves winger impressed this season and helped Gary O’Neil’s men to a respectable finish in the Premier League. O’Neil has made no secret of the issues his club faces financially which has led to speculation star man Neto could be sold. Liverpool are an outsider to sign the Portuguese forward though with Manchester City the current favourites.

Had Ruben Amorim been appointed at Anfield, Liverpool would have been a favourite to sign this Swedish striker. Remarkably, the 25-year-old has bagged 43 goals since his summer move from Coventry City and this has caught the eye of Europe’s elite. The Reds are just behind Arsenal in the race to sign him but at this stage, it is expected he will stay in Portugal.

Olise’s season was plagued with injuries but when he was on the pitch he showed why Premier League clubs are sniffing around him. With ten goals and six assists in 19 appearances, the 22-year-old proved when he is fit, he is more than a handful. Once again, the Reds are far outsiders to sign the Frenchman with Manchester United the favourite to seal his signature.

We know that Osimhen will be on the move in the summer transfer window after Napoli confirmed they expect him to leave. The Premier League has been earmarked as a potential destination but it is Chelsea and Arsenal who lead the way. PSG are the favourites to sign Osimhen but Liverpool may feel it is worth joining the race if they wish to replace Nunez.

It is fair to say it would be a huge shock if Sancho was to move directly from United to Liverpool in the summer. But, if they were the only suitors for the winger in the summer, Erik ten Hag may have little choice but to sell him to the Reds. Currently, staying at United or moving permanently to Dortmund seem his most likely options.
