A personal trainer with a passion for helping people hopes to share his fitness knowledge and promote a positive message.
Jake Gadsden, 22, of Sutton St James, started his business, JG Fitness, more than a year ago, and has since created quite a community by hosting chair exercise classes for people in the area.
The weekly sessions include seated exercises for individuals who lack mobility and functional strengths. Jake said: “It’s all about making things easier for them and increasing their quality of life. We use resistance bands and body weight during the seated exercises.
“It’s not just the physical aspect but the mental side of it as well. I want to bring everyone together and for some people over the age of 50 who might be out of work or alone at home, it can massively impact them.
“After the class has finished, we enjoy a cup of tea together, celebrate people’s birthdays sometimes and I have a few group trips planned as well – it’s all about doing things together.”

Jake pursued his love of fitness and football after graduating with a degree in personal training in sports in America. He added: “I have always been interested in fitness. I came back to Lincolnshire and thought of something that I would enjoy and I noticed no one else was really doing it.
“I’m passionate to help others. I’d feel quite selfish if I didn’t help people with the knowledge I’ve got and in this day and age it’s quite easy to get off track, have diabetes and go into a wheelchair, rather than trying to stand up and do things how we naturally should.
“It’s all about preaching a positive message to not give up. It’s not only your quality of life that you are impacting, it’s that of your family and grandchildren and the amount of quality time you spend with them.”
The mobility classes last 45 minutes and Jake sees groups of up to 15 people every week.
His classes start on Monday with seated exercise classes in Sutton St James Baptist Church from 11am.
On Wednesday, there is a coordination and balance exercise group that uses stronger weights and resistance bands – which is a progression from the seated classes and takes place in Sutton St James Village Hall at 11am.
Jake also hosts an Intense Strength and Conditioning Class at Sutton St James Village Hall every Thursday and will be starting a new seated exercise and mobility class on Wednesday, June 5 in Spalding Baptist Church.
He added: “I really enjoy it and it doesn’t feel like a job at all. This village has a lot of people who are willing to come to my classes which is really good. If I can do it here then I should be able to do it in a bigger place.”
JG Fitness also offers one-to-one advice on mobile app, Trainerize, where clients can get a tailored plan made by Jake, to help them reach their goals.
