Converging at St Andrew on Saturday, Kurt Dunn, CEO of Body by Kurt, gathered his most physically impressive friends and collaborators for another edition of FitFest. Showcasing fitness with a fun twist, the highlight of the evening was the SamRock Obstacle Course, created by SamRock Supplements.
Despite the heavy grey clouds blanketing the Saturday evening sky, patrons were plentiful. Also abundant were mosquitoes, likely due to the recent heavy rains accompanying Hurricane Beryl. Whether by divine coincidence or necessity, the only way to fend off the insects was to keep moving – much to the delight of the organisers. Creating quite the spectacle, the SamRock Obstacle Course was a ten-section maze designed to push your body to its limits.
Continuing their tradition of robust corporate support, booths promoting gyms, fitness centres, and healthy snacks and supplements lined the four corners of the NWC Sports Club.
“We’ll have several booths focused on fitness and wellness and we are encouraging all our patrons to take advantage of the information and guidance available,” Dunn said prior to the event. “Embarking on this journey is easier when you are informed and supported and that’s also what we’ll be doing this Saturday.” And so said, so done.
First timers at the event, Fit Lab Studios, shared that though they are new to FitFest, they are excited to join the alternate exercise train.
“It’s rather unique I must say, fun fitness is our thing and based on the activities that they do it ties in very very well. So it’s good to see that there’s a bigger community about the vision that we have,” co-founder Christina Evans told Lifestyle.
Expounding on why they decided to join the festivities this year she said, “[We wanted] to let the world know about all that Fit Lab has to offer. We’ve been around for five years, we launched October 2018. Our tradition has been social media and word of mouth so we thought why the heck not just put ourselves out there.”
She continued, “At Fit Lab, the focus is bodyweight fitness and aerobics fitness. So things that use your bodyweight so that you don’t need any machines, you don’t need any weights, just you and what your body can do.”
Lauding his fun and fit philosophy, Dunn added, “We get feedback all the time that a big challenge is the motivation. So, we’ve designed the event to heavily feature music and dancing – things we know Jamaicans naturally love. This makes it easier to get motivated, complete the routine and remain consistent.”
