A senior firefighter has been arrested for allegedly stealing HKD100,000 (MOP102,948) in cash from his former girlfriend, the Judiciary Police has announced.
According to a PJ media briefing on Friday, the 46-year-old suspect has worked for the fire brigade since 1998. He allegedly entered the victim’s apartment near the Cathedral in downtown Macau claiming that he had already picked up a package for her from a delivery service.
He left the scene with the money kept near her bed, using the key he had kept until the pair broke up in April this year.
The unsuspecting victim was not at home at the time of the theft, the authorities said.
However, the suspect informed the victim earlier this week that he had been to her home and taken her money without her knowledge.
It was later discovered that the money had already been gambled away in the casino.
In response to the incident, the Fire Services Bureau issued a statement expressing grave concern about the incident.
An immediate disciplinary inquiry has already launched into the alleged misconduct, with the firefighter in question currently suspended.
