Filmmaker husband of Aubrey Plaza dies aged 47

Filmmaker Jeff Baena — the husband of Aubrey Plaza — has passed away at the age of 47.

According to reports from US media outlets, his body was discovered by an assistant at his Los Angeles home on Friday (3 January) morning. Baena, best known for directing movies including The Little Hours, Horse Girl and Joshy, was later pronounced dead.

Following the news of his passing, Baena’s family told Deadline they are “devastated” and asked for privacy at this “difficult time”.

The circumstances of his death remain unclear and will likely not be confirmed until an autopsy is conducted.

Baena and 40-year-old Plaza, who has appeared in hit TV series including The White Lotus and Parks and Recreation, married in 2021. They worked together on his directorial debut, a zombie comedy film called Life After Beth, and went on to collaborate on several projects across the years.

Plaza herself is yet to comment publicly on the death of her husband.
