A man has been arrested over claims he attempted to drown his children at a beach in Connecticut.
Screaming was heard by a West Haven Police Department officer who saw an adult ‘deliberately drowning his children’ in the water at 2.30am on Saturday.
Backup officers were called to the scene near Ocean Avenue and Dawson Avenue and rescue boats arrived before the children were pulled from the water.
Emergency services conducted ‘life saving measures’ and the kids, both under the age of three, were taken to hospital in critical condition.Â
Romney Desronvil, 41, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted homicide and two counts of risk of injury, according to WTNH.Â

Local authorities rushed to the aid of the children, both under three years old
The West Haven Police officer was in the area on a patrol when he heard ‘significant screaming’.
He then saw two small children and an adult male in the water and went to approach them.
But the man moved further away and shouted at him to ‘stay back’. The officer said it was clear that he was ‘deliberately drowning his children’.
Once backup officers arrived at the scene, they immediately entered the water around 100 yards from shore.
The first officer who responded to the incident rescued both of the children.
They received ‘life saving measures’ before they were transported to hospital where they are in an intensive care unit.Â
Three officers were treated for minor injuries for their roles in the incident. Â
