The 77th Cannes Film Festival showcased a myriad of fashion trends, from risqué sheer dresses donned by Bella Hadid and Naomi Campbell to a mix of textures embraced by Michelle Yeoh. Leather, Wimbledon whites, and sequins also made notable appearances on the red carpet.
Fashion trends at Cannes Film Festival
While long trains, poofy gowns and diamonds worth millions may not be a practical addition to our wardrobes, there are a number of fashion trends you can take inspiration from for your everyday closet. With Cannes Film Festival ruling the fashion scene for a hot minute now, here’s diving deep into every trend we spotted on the red carpet.
From risque sheer dresses to sequins, textures and more, the 77th Cannes Film Festival was a total fashion extravaganza. Here’s looking at all the fashion trends that were spotted on the streets of Cannes these past couple of days:
Bella Hadid wore the mother of all sheer dresses at the premiere of The Apprentice. The Saint Laurent dress left nothing to the imagination and made for quite a powerful statement of feminism. On the other hand, even Naomi Campbell wore vintage Chanel on the red carpet, flaunting sheer cut-outs throughout.
While high-shine and sequined dresses made for quite a sight on the red carpet, crinkled and pleated gowns weren’t too far off too. This year, Cannes was about mixing and matching, with even Michelle Yeoh embracing a feathered bottom and a leather top for one for her looks.
While we all saw Michelle Yeoh making a case for warm weather leather at Cannes, Cate Blanchett’s leather pants aren’t to be taken lightly either. If there’s one thing for sure, leather seems to be all-season and that’s that!
When you think about the French Riviera, your mind automatically goes to Summer white looks for the hot weather. From Selena Gomez‘s two-piece to Julianne Moore, Anya Taylor-Joy and Meryl Streep’s OOTDs, white seemed to be the colour of the festival.
President of Jury Greta Gerwig wore a gorgeous sequined gown for opening night. This was followed by a number of sequinned looks, especially by Lily Gladstone, Naomi Cambell and Eva Longoria. While Sequins are yet to be a popular choice for classy day-time dressing, incorporating them here and there in your outfit seems like a good choice.
