Taylor Swift fans have told of their excitement as Liverpool has been given a special themed makeover in preparation for the arrival of the pop superstar next week.

The American star will bring her Eras Tour to the city’s Anfield stadium from 13-15 June.

To mark the occasion, Liverpool City Council has created a trail of art installations across the city, each inspired by one of the singer’s albums.

Fan Abbie Whitehead, one of the hordes of so-called “Swifties”, said: “Honestly I don’t think there’s words to describe how excited we all are and the fact that the city has exploded with glitter.”

Claire McColgan, director of the council’s Culture Liverpool team, said the themed features would give everyone a chance to “enjoy a bit of Taylor magic”.

“Even if you have not got a ticket for Taylor you can come to Liverpool and enjoy a bit of Taylor magic,” she said.

She said the city wanted to create something to reflect the “exceptional and seismic” scale of the singer’s impact.

Eleven art installations, which are inspired by studio albums from her back catalogue, feature at location across the city.

They include a 7ft (2m) butterfly, a moss-covered baby grand piano, two murals, a floral swing bench and a red room.

Another fan, Bella Oggione, said she was “excited” to be taking her younger sisters to see the show.

Daisy Speed said: “She’s an incredible wordsmith and obviously really great with melody too.

“I think her messaging in her songs makes you feel not alone with what you’re going through.”

The trail, delivered Culture Liverpool and the creative social enterprise Make CIC and other artists, runs from Saturday until 16 June.
