Dina Asher-Smith claimed a fifth individual European gold medal tonight, and was talking to BBC Sport:
Fifth European gold and a little swear as you came over the
line…
“Sorry BBC! I’ve just moved coach, I’m having great fun, a great time
and I’m trying new things. When you are in a new set-up in an Olympic year, you
have to use every opportunity to try new things.
“Tried something new today but
I have been working really hard on my top-end speed and it’s working.
“I did not get the best start for me but I was able to work it
back and that’s something I’ve worked really hard on.
“That was a bit hairy but made it. It’s new style of winning
a race for me – so that’s a new plus.”
After Munich, did you feel you had a point to prove?
“I don’t really feel like I carry that kind of energy. I’m
just not that kind of athlete. Some get motivated by the whole ‘everybody’s
against me’ stuff but I’m not really that kind of girl.
“I was frustrated in Munich but you’ve just got to work on things.
Move on and do better next time.
“I definitely looked to come here and win. I knew I was
capable of it. I knew that I was in great shape in Much as well but it just
didn’t happen.
“I was very happy to do that today, in a new race style.”
