Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to make a swift decision on his future, but the club’s FA Cup triumph may have complicated matters — as it means they must pay him a higher compensation fee should they sack him.
Under the terms of Ten Hag’s contract, it would have been cheaper for United to fire the 54-year-old Dutchman if they had not qualified for the Europa League, but they did so on Saturday by beating Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley.
United are conducting a review of the season to assess whether Ten Hag should keep his job after a largely disappointing campaign in which they finished eighth in the Premier League.
