England manager Gareth Southgate has reportedly made a decision on whether Manchester United defender Luke Shaw will start against the Netherlands on Wednesday night.
The Three Lions progressed to the semi-finals of Euro 2024 on Saturday evening as they beat Switzerland 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw following 120 minutes of action. Shaw has had to watch on from the sidelines for most of this tournament after being missing with a muscular injury since February.
However, he was called upon for the last few minutes of normal time against the Swiss as well as extra time. Shaw was impressive on his return to action and gave England a better outlet on the left.

Despite this, The Sun reports Shaw will be benched for the game against the Dutch as concerns remain about his fitness. Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier is believed to be set to retain his place in the team on the left-hand side.
It is unclear at this stage whether England will stick with the five at the back which worked well in the quarter-finals or revert back to a 4-2-3-1. Southgate admitted the decision to change the system at the weekend was to match up against their opponents who also utilised a five at the back system.
Whichever formation Southgate settles on, there is expected to be another change to the defence. Despite impressing, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa is expected to be benched with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who was suspended for the last eight, returning to the team.
