Eminem has announced he is going to be a grandad in a very emotional music video dedicated to his daughter Hailie.
The rapper, 51, just dropped the video for his song Temporary, which is intended as a message for his daughter to help her grieve when he is gone.
In a patchwork of home videos of Hailie, now 28, there are also glimpses of the Lose Yourself hitmaker at her wedding as they shared a sweet moment together.
The song begins: ‘A lot of people ask me, am I afraid of death? / The truth is, I think what scares me the most / Is not being able to say all the things I wanna say to you / When I’m no longer here / So this song is for Hailie for when that day comes.’
But the real tear-jerker comes at the end of the video, when a home video shows Hailie giving her father a scrunched up football top, with ‘Grandpa’ emblazoned on the back.
In the football shirt was a baby scan, which left Eminem looking shocked and delighted.
Fans are in bits at the video, as @RileyTaugor dubbed it: ‘Music video of the year, easily.’
‘That’s the most personal video Eminem has ever done. beautiful.. he watched his daughter get married and now she’s pregnant damn,’ said @royal_bobby24.
Others, naturally, were in floods of tears.
‘Omfg. I just shed some tears at work watching this. Amazing,’ said @inform313thEM, as @vectrspace said: ‘Had me in grown man tears.’
His album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), dropped in July this year to bleak reviews, with many describing his twelfth album as tired and more of the same.
But his hardcore fans are loving this intimate new video, as they did the closing track of the album, Somebody Save Me, which is a poignant apology to his children.
In it, he laments his addiction struggles and his role as a dad, with references to how life could have been if he hadn’t got clean.
‘Another pill as I start to spiral,’ he raps. ‘Message to my daughters, I don’t even deserve the father title.’
Born in Missouri, Eminem has three half-siblings called Michael, Sarah and Nate and he lived with his mother Debbie as they moved to a number of different cities before eventually settling in Detroit, Michigan.
The musician has raised Nate, who is 14 years his junior, since he was a teenager.
At the age of 15, the musician met Kimberley Anne Scott in high school, with Kimberley moving in with Eminem and his mother. They started a relationship and welcomed daughter Hailie together in 1995.
The couple got married in 1999 and went on to have a turbulent relationship, with the pair divorcing two years later in 2001.
They then remarried in 2006 but Eminem filed for divorce a year later, agreeing joint custody of their daughter.
While Eminem’s only biological child is Hailie, he is father to three children, including Alaina Marie Mathers, who is the biological daughter of Kim’s twin sister Dawn.
She was adopted at a young age by Kim and Eminem due to Dawn’s battle substance abuse, which led to a fatal overdose in 2016.
He also has an adopted child called Stevie, who came out as non-binary in 2021, and whose mother is Kim.
