Police are investigating after a large group of youths ‘went on the rampage’ at an Edinburgh shopping centre and allegedly smashed a shop window.
Officers swooped on Newkirkgate Shopping Centre on Monday afternoon following a report of several youths causing a disturbance as pictures from the scene on Tuesday show one the windows at Greggs cracked.
It follows reports of youths attempting to break the glass at the bakery while staff were inside as police were called to the scene and are carrying out enquiries.

Images taken by Edinburgh Live on Tuesday show a large crack in one of the shop’s windows as police confirmed enquiries are ongoing. It is understood the shop opened as usual the day after the attack..
A police spokesperson said: “Around 5.35pm on Monday, 27 May 2024 police received a report of a large group of youths causing a disturbance within the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and discovered damage to a glass door of one of the shops within the shopping centre. Enquiries are ongoing.” Greggs was approached for comment.
