The leader of Hamas and deputy leader of Hezbollah were among mourners at the funeral of President Raisi of Iran, who died with seven others in a helicopter crash at the weekend.
Ismail Haniyeh and Naim Qassem joined tens of thousands on the streets of Tehran for a procession of coffins through the capital on Wednesday, following a service presided over by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader.
Before the funeral, Haniyeh spoke as the crowd chanted “death to Israel”. He said: “I come in the name of the Palestinian people, in the name of the resistance factions of Gaza … to express our condolences.” The Muslim world “must fulfil their obligations to the Palestinians to liberate their land”, he said.
