The 24-year-old scored three goals and assisted a further three in all competitions this season and was key in their run to the Champions League final which saw them fall to a defeat against Real Madrid.

Sancho’s revitalised performances could spell the chance for him to move back to Dortmund on a permanent deal amid his struggles at United.

However, club chief Kehl is not yet convinced if a move can take place ahead of next season.

Speaking to TNT Sports before the Champions League final via the Daily Mirror, he said: “I don’t know yet, to be honest, because it was great to have him for the last six months.

“He increased our quality in the team and he’s looking forward to the final. He wants to win and everything else will be decided afterwards.

“The situation is pretty clear, he still has a contract at Man United, we have no buy option meaning we need to discuss and negotiate.

“I don’t know if that will work. But first of all, I hope that he will score one or two times tonight then the price will increase.”

ESPN have reported that United expect Sancho to leave the club this summer regardless of Erik ten Hag’s future as boss.

He only featured three times for the club at the beginning of the season before he was banished from first-team training amid a high-profile falling out with the Dutchman.

Ten Hag claimed that he didn’t train well enough to be named in their squad for their Premier League defeat at Arsenal in September.

Sancho hit back at the Dutchman on social media in a since-deleted post and was then excluded from the first-team.

The England international signed for United in a £73million move in 2021 after shining at Dortmund, for whom he scored 50 goals in his first spell.

He has since netted 12 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions for United, with his deal at Old Trafford set to expire in 2026.
