TSMC’s advanced manufacturing processes is creating steep bills for its partners, which perfectly explains why Apple was the only one to introduce its A17 Pro and M3 on the 3nm ‘N3B’ node last year. The second-generation 3nm process, which is also known as ‘N3E,’ does not hold back on footing a large sum for companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek, but at least with its improved yields paired with performance and efficiency upgrades, companies would be more encouraged to transition to the cutting-edge technology.
The first Android chipsets mass produced on this lithography will be the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, with a tipster providing a price estimate of MediaTek’s upcoming flagship SoC, saying that it will be 20 percent more expensive, but still cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This difference should make the Dimensity 9400 the preferred choice for the majority of Chinese smartphone vendors.
The estimated price of Dimensity 9400 is rumored to be $155, but tipster provides a lower figure for how much the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will cost
There is no exact amount for how much each chipset will cost, likely because Qualcomm and MediaTek have different pricing conditions for different clients. Regardless, on Weibo, tipster Digital Chat Station does his best to provide an estimation, believing that the Dimensity 9400 will cost $155 while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be more expensive at $190. Previously, another tipster, Ice Universe, revealed a $240 sum for Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship silicon while also mentioning a 20 percent increase.
The aforementioned prediction suggests that the current-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 costs $200, but based on Digital Chat Station’s estimations, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be cheaper than its predecessor, which is next to impossible. Assuming we treat these prices somewhat accurately, the Dimensity 9400 is the obvious choice for most phone makers, especially after learning about its reported capabilities. To recap, it is the first smartphone chipset to cross a score of 3 million in AnTuTu.
Its new ARM Immortalis-G925 MP12 GPU should also be a force to be reckoned with. In GFXBench’s Aztec Ruins 1440p benchmark, the Dimensity 9400 is faster than Apple’s M4, raising the SoC’s stock higher in the eyes of manufacturers who intend to use it in their devices. It remains to be seen if we will witness these scores in commercial smartphone units, but if MediaTek has decided to stamp its upcoming SoC for a price of $155, then Qualcomm should be sweating right about now.
