The United States has condemned a deadly rampage by Israeli settlers on a Palestinian village in the West Bank, saying the Israeli government must stop the attacks which could spark wider unrest in the Palestinian territory.
The attack, which left at least one person dead as dozens of settlers attacked the village of Jit, also drew condemnation from Binyamin Netanyahu, Israeli prime minister, and rare rebukes from far-right politicians, who have been alarmed by Washington’s sanctions against extremist settler activists.
It was the latest such incident since October, when Hamas attacked Israel and killed more than 1,100 people.
