Erotica photo points won’t feature in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Dead Rising follows photojournalist Frank West’s mission to expose the strange events happening at the Willamette Mall in Colorado. It’s a fantastic game, offering you a host of items to hack, slash, maul, and dismember the hordes of shambling dead now occupying the shops and food courts of this once lively shopping center. While much of the fun of Dead Rising can be found in slaughtering zombies, a large portion of its gameplay requires you to take photos of what’s happening.
By using Frank’s camera, you can earn experience points to level up, unlocking a variety of skills to aid your undead-destroying escapades, with pictures scored on a number of categories. While the original game included the Brutality, Drama, Erotica, Horror, and Outtakes categories, Capcom will be shortening the list for the upcoming remaster.
It appears that Capcom won’t allow you to earn additional Prestige Points (PP) — the experience points used to level up — by taking photos for the Erotica category, Famitsu has reported (thanks, VGC). Both the original Dead Rising and the 2016 remaster that launched on Xbox One included the category, which rewards you points for taking photos of women in revealing clothing, underwear, their cleavage, and the like.
It comes as no surprise that Capcom would want to step away from rewarding those activities. Nothing has been said to suggest that any visual content will be removed from the game, it just appears that the team doesn’t want to actively encourage players to run around inappropriately snapping female characters.
There are plenty of other fun categories to earn points from when attempting to get a scoop on the zombie apocalypse as Frank West. The other categories seem to be returning, so snapping a zombie being violently obliterated should make for a great Brutality shot, and sticking a traffic cone on some poor reanimated corpse makes for a humorous Outtake snap, while finding the right scenarios for Horror and Drama pictures will be great for your PP gains.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launches on Xbox Series X|S on September 19. While we wait to return to the chaotic world, why not take a look at our list of the best Xbox horror games?
