One of the highlights for Dead By Daylight this year has been the introduction of 2v8 mode. This was only around for a short period, but it is set to return in November for a limited-time. There will be more iterations in the future, but, unfortunately, some DBD licensed killers might never be part of 2v8 mode because of licensors.

While 2v8 is an exciting prospect for next month, don’t forget we have Haunted By Daylight set to start on October 17th with limited-time rewards to unlock. In addition, November will see the arrival of the Chapter 34 PTB for which the killer has possibly already leaked.

While the Chapter 34 public-test build will only be available to players on PC, everyone will be able to enjoy the return of 2v8 mode. It is coming back as a second iteration, and there will be improvements along with new killers. More villains is fantastic, but, unfortunately, none of them are licensed.

Why Dead By Daylight 2v8 mode might not get some licensed killers

During the Haunted By Daylight 2024 livestream, BeHaviour Interactive discussed the return of 2v8 mode. It will come back in Dead By Daylight on November 12th, and it will only be around until November 19th unless its stay gets extended.

In addition to announcing some improvements and changes to the mode, the developer revealed three more killers will be added: The Spirit, The Blight, and The Deathslinger. These will be in addition to the killers that were available during the first iteration.

Unfortunately, none of the killers that will be available for 2v8 2.0 are licensed. A lot of the community are hoping licensed killers will join 2v8 in the future, but it’s something that might be impossible for certain rogues.

During an interview with Slasher Radio, Dead By Daylight game director and head of partnerships at BeHaviour Interactive, Mathieu Cote, discussed the difficulties with getting licensed killers in 2v8. In the interview Cote said, “You can have the Xenomorph chasing Ash Williams in the house that Michael Myers grew up in… [but] having the Nemesis and Chucky running around in a map together is a bigger step. For us it doesn’t matter having The Spirit right next to The Trapper, but for licensors it’s a conversation that we need to have”.

Cote added that each licensor has the right to say “no, that’s too much and I’m not interested in seeing my property that way”. Although it’s disappointing some licensors don’t want their killer to interact with other killers, Cote did say that “some are okay with it and even excited to see their characters integrated in something that we believe is one of the biggest things done in Dead By Daylight”.

Asked if licensed killers will be added to 2v8 in future iterations, Cote said “I will not comment”.

The good news is that not all licensors are opposed to their killer being in 2v8, but the bad news is that some are against the idea. There’s no mention of which licensors in particular, but it suggests that some licensed killers will never be added to 2v8 mode if licensed villains get added at all.

It seems silly that licensed killers interacting is too much when they are killing survivors from other properties, but the final decision is ultimately not up to BeHaviour Interactive. Hopefully licensed killers do get added to 2v8 in the future, but nothing is guaranteed right now.
