Dave Grohl’s former flame Tina Basich predicted rockstar’s infidelity in 2003 memoir: ‘Everyone else knew… but me’

Must read

Dave Grohl‘s ex-girlfriend Tina Basich opened up about her stormy relationship with the Foo Fighters singer in her 2003 memoir, noting how his cheating brought their romance to an abrupt end, amid recent news the rock icon fathered a child out of wedlock.

Basich, 55, a prominent snowboarder who has won in the X Games, was in a relationship with Grohl, 55, for around two years beginning in the late 1990s.

The Sacramento, California-born athlete detailed the ill-fated relationship in her 2003 book Pretty Good for a Girl: The Autobiography of a Snowboarding Pioneer, adding that she had learned he had been secretly seeing another woman while they dated.

Basich said in the memoir, ‘I don’t know how anyone in his profession can have a normal relationship with a girlfriend … or two, as it turned out.

‘I found out secondhand, through the grapevine, when it seemed like everyone else in the world knew about it but me.’

Basich said in the book that she had been ‘so disappointed … for being sucked in’ to the romance with the famed musician.

Basich said Grohl, who was the drummer for Nirvana prior to putting the Foo Fighters together, was very curt in his split with her, which occurred as she had been nursing a broken leg.

‘Breakups suck,’ Basich said. ‘But Rockstar exits are the worst. All I got was a five-minute phone call from him, after five weeks of me calling and trying to get ahold of him because I just had to know if these rumors were true and had to hear it straight from the source.’

Basich said that Grohl admitted ‘nothing’ and promptly ‘dropped off the planet’ in her life while being ‘everywhere else’ amid his band’s continued success.

Basich explained how she took the split hard, as she ‘couldn’t escape the thought of’ Grohl after his brusque breakup with her.

‘I went grocery shopping a few days after we broke up and heard the elevator-music version of Learn to Fly, which gave me an instant stomachache,’ she said, ‘then saw him on the cover of Guitar magazine staring at me in the check-out line.’

Basich said she ‘didn’t know how to handle’ the painful split, as she felt she was ‘not that strong’ at the time.

She added that ‘you can only give up so much of your heart and your career and your time and your spirit, and here I was, giving it all up for a guy and losing myself in the process.’

Grohl made headlines Tuesday after he announced on his Instagram that he had fathered a child out of wedlock, amid his 21-year marriage to wife Jordyn Blum, 48. The couple share three daughters: Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10.

‘I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,’ Grohl said. ‘I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.

‘We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.’

Grohl did not make any further comments about the identity of the mother.

Grohl and Blum wed in 2003. He had been in a past marriage to photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood between 1994 and 1997.

Grohl formed the Foo Fighters in 1994, the year of Kurt Cobain’s suicide, which ended Nirvana. Foo Fighters drummer and Grohl confidante Taylor Hawkins died at the age of 50 in March of 2022 while the band had been touring in Colombia.
