With Homelander now available in Mortal Kombat 1, only Takeda Takahashi of the Kombat Pack remains. Thanks to an update from NetherRealm Studios about Ferra’s delay, we now know that Takeda is scheduled to be launched on July 23.
So, what’s next for Mortal Kombat 1? Back in December 2023, it was confirmed that NetherRealm Studios had already begun development on a story expansion DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 due to the success of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath’s success.
Needless to say, there have been tons of rumors and supposed leaks regarding the development of a Kombat Pack 2. We’ve heard a variety of names thrown around at this point, but it seems that Interloko has “100% confirmation” (subject to change) about the next six fighters that are slated to be released as part of the Kombat Pack 2 bundle.
Additionally, Interloko notes the presence of two arenas and five new announcers that can apparently be found in Mortal Kombat 1’s code. It’s also revealed that which types of files have changed since day 1 of the game’s release.
As expected, the horror movie icon Ghostface from the Scream series is one of the six combatants detailed here. With the recent addition of Mileena as a new announcer, it’s been discovered that Mileena will actually announce “Ghostface” as a fighter, though this voice line is currently unused in actual gameplay.
Interloko claims that Kombat Pack 2 will also consist of Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000. We’ve heard all of these names before, though this is the first time that Conan the Barbarian was outright named as it was previously believed that the character could’ve also been He-Man or Kotal Kahn due to their thematic similarities.
The five new announcers are said to be Havik, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, Conan, and the T-1000. This also seems to suggest that Havik and Noob Saibot will play important roles in the story expansion.
There appears to be a heavy focus on the Lin Kuei with Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor. Of course, Kombat Pack 2 appears to be similar to the first Kombat Pack in that half of its representation is made up of guest characters.
Notably, there’s a voice line hidden within Mortal Kombat 1 where Peacemaker comments on T-100’s appearance in reference to how the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Peacemaker’s dad from the Peacemaker television series are played by the same actor, Robert Patrick.
Aside from that, it will be a bit strange to have the T-1000 playable in Mortal Kombat 1 without the T-800, who was DLC in Mortal Kombat 11. However, one has to imagine that the T-1000 could have an interesting playstyle considering his ability to transform into liquid metal.
