Australian hunk Chris Hemsworth is ‘in talks’ to take up the titular role of the upcoming Disney project, People reports.

The rumour mill has been in overdrive trying to decipher who will be cast as his Cinderella.

InSneider has now claimed film bosses are keen to for the Normal People actress to take up the baton and feature as the iconic Disney princess.

Although casting remains entirely speculative, film buffs have slammed the mooted choices due to the age gap between the two thespians.

Hemsworth is 41, 15 years Edgar Jones’ senior – a factor fans don’t seem to be pleased with regarding the unconfirmed casting.

Unhappy social media users were quick to critique the speculative casting, asking why older princesses couldn’t be cast.

One asked: ‘When will we get a princess over the age of 30?’

‘Wanting to cast a 26-year-old alongside a 41-year-old man? Just get rid of this now,’ a second quipped.

‘Why a 20-year-old and a 45-year-old? Makes no sense,’ another chimed in reference to the rumours.

‘I love Chris Hemsworth but they couldn’t get a 26-40 year old princess or a young prince?’

Another asked: ‘Why does the prince have to randomly be 45 and the girl be born in 2000??’

Screenwriter Catherine Delgado told Fandomwire that the unconfirmed casting between Mr Hemsworth and Ms Edgar Jones’ age gap could ‘raise some concerns’.

‘Even though it’s strictly professional, the 15-year age gap between the two could make some in the audience view the pairing differently.

She added: ‘It’s still a detail that can raise eyebrows and even spark controversy, whether the movie is a drama or a fantasy.’

However digital marketing expert, Lindi Mngaza, had a different view on the potential casting.

She told the Mail: ‘I personally feel that she is in her twenties and actually history has shown that older men and younger women have had historically good relationships.

‘There are films of people like Nicole who’s casting herself with a lot of younger men.

‘So I think it’s something that seems to be really polarising in the moment, but I would not think it’s something to be too alarmed about.

‘I think it’s a narrative that has happened throughout history and will continue to happen.’

Rumours of the Prince Charming Disney movie began to bubble last month, with the film said to focus on the famous fictional prince.

But no plot details have been disclosed, and it remains unclear how many of his leading ladies, such as the likes of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, will feature.

Wonka Director Paul King will be directing the project, and is set to co-write the script with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker with whom he has previously worked with on films like Paddington 2.

However the potential casting isn’t the first time Hollywood has come under fire for controversial age gaps.

An X-rated sex scene between Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman in new movie Miller’s Girl was previously branded ‘gross’ by viewers left horrified by their 31-year age gap.

Wednesday star Jenna, 21, plays 18-year-old student Cairo Sweet in the black comedy drama, while Martin, 52, takes on the role of her teacher Jonathan Miller.

Raunchy scenes from this story are then played out on screen by Jenna and Martin – leaving viewers in uproar over the ‘uncomfortable’ age gap.

Taking to X, which was formerly known as Twitter, viewers wrote: ‘I think I am finally done watching these age gap movies. They are all gross, and I am tired of it. No amount of Jenna Ortega or Martin Freeman could save this one for me.’
