Customize your PS5 home screen with limited-time 30th anniversary aesthetics based on older consoles

Must read

A new, limited-time PlayStation 5 feature released in celebration of the PlayStation brand’s 30th anniversary allows users to customize the console’s main menu with graphics and sounds from yesteryear, PlayStation Lifestyle reports.

Upon booting up your PS5 today, you should be prompted to download a new update (if not, go into Settings > System > System Software and hit System Features Update to move the process along manually). Restart your console and you should be greeted by a new boot-up sequence reminiscent of the original PlayStation, complete with the old-school Sony Computer Entertainment logo and droning soundscape. After a brief intro to the feature, a new PlayStation 30th Anniversary option should now be available at the top of your Settings page that includes Appearance and Sound options based on PlayStations 1-4 as well as a special milestone tableau.

While the feature doesn’t go so far as to make the PS5’s home page look exactly like the operating systems of its predecessors, it’s still a fun walk down memory lane. I also wish Sony allowed you to mix and match, because I’d love to use the original PlayStation aesthetics along with the soft clicking of the PlayStation 3’s navigation effects, but such is life. If you’re not able to check it out for yourself, here are a bunch of screenshots.

It’s unclear how long this short-term feature will stick around, so have fun while it lasts.
