Cristin Milioti Reacts to ‘The Penguin’ Golden Globes Nomination — and Shares Latest on a Season 2

Must read

Cristin Milioti was getting ready to take her dog Rupert for a walk when her phone started blowing up.

The Penguin actress quickly discovered she had just been nominated for a 2025 Golden Globe for her critically acclaimed take on mob heiress Sofia Falcone.

“It was very exciting, very exciting,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And just very, very joyful. My God, the women in my category. I don’t have words to describe how surreal it is and how overwhelmed I am being nominated alongside them. They’re all so brilliant.”

Milioti was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a limited series, anthology series or a motion picture made for television on Monday morning, along with Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country), Sofía Vergara (Griselda), Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans) and Kate Winslet (The Regime).

The HBO Batman-universe crime drama was also nominated for best limited series and her co-star Colin Farrell was nominated for best performance by a male actor in the limited series category.

“I’m so excited for [showrunner] Lauren LeFranc and Colin,” she said “I think they’re both geniuses and I truly am so excited to get to go together — just to all sit at a table together and get to celebrate this thing that we made.”

Even though The Penguin is billed as a limited series, executive producer Matt Reeves and The Penguin team have been in discussions on a potential second season.

“All I can say is that it is my wildest hope [to play Sofia Falcone again],” she said. “It’s my wildest hope, and I couldn’t be any clearer about making my desire known. But I haven’t heard anything concrete yet.”

Here’s the complete list of 2025 Golden Globes nominations. The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards is set to air live from the Beverly Hilton on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.
