A couple managed to buy an eight-bedroom house overlooking the River Mersey for £250,000. Steve, a builder, and primary school teacher Sally are now transforming the property, which was said to have been in “the most dreadful condition”.
With Steve spending all day everyday renovating the New Brighton home, the couple has been completely overhauling the “villa”, named Clifton, on one wage. Their work is being documented on Channel 4’s Renovation Nation.
Describing the purchase of their eighteen-room home, Sally said she couldn’t believe what they had paid for it. But it’s been a long slog to get the property to where it is now, after the couple completed the sale back in 2018.
The pair said they have worked “tirelessly” for four years, as Steve said: “[The home] is my full time job. If you have plenty of money, these things would be easier but this is our story. Our story is, we’ll do it but we have to do it carefully.”

Having renovated the kitchen, sitting room, and bedrooms, Steve and Sally have now turned their attention to the guest bathroom and a room which would have been regularly used by live-in servants when the home was first built back in 1901.
