Coronation Street‘s Audrey Roberts tries to sabotage her daughter Gail Rodwell’s wedding plans later this month.
Audrey comes up with a con as she disapproves of Gail’s plans to tie the knot with her old flame Jesse Chadwick.
Viewers have seen Gail and Jesse begin to make plans for a happy future away from Weatherfield after recently getting engaged.
The scenes are building up to Gail’s departure from the cobbles, as Helen Worth is bowing out from the ITV soap after 50 years.
In scenes airing later this month, Audrey decides to play for sympathy from Gail by pretending to be unwell. She hopes that this will deter Gail from wanting to move away with Jesse.

Gail insists on taking Audrey’s temperature when she claims to be ill. Staying one step ahead, Audrey secretly pops the thermometer into David’s hot coffee to manipulate the result.
When Gail looks at the reading, she’s alarmed and orders Audrey to see a doctor.

Later in the week, Gail ploughs on with the wedding plans by arranging a pre-ceremony pampering session for herself and her family at the salon.
Audrey hands out glasses of fizz, but lets her true feelings show over Gail’s choice of husband by making some spiteful remarks about him. How will Gail respond?
This Christmas, Audrey’s deception will be one of the secrets that comes to light as Gail faces some major decisions over her future.
Coronation Street‘s new producer Kate Brooks recently told us: “All of those secrets come to the forefront on Christmas Day. You basically have Gail, who’s going to leave the Street, but in the run-up to Christmas she has found out that some of her nearest and dearest have absolutely betrayed her.

“She doesn’t know who to believe. Even her dear old mum has kind of lied to her and she really struggles with that. She’s thinking: ‘I don’t know whether I want this. I don’t know whether I want to be with Jesse’.
“She contemplates and questions everything and every decision she’s ever made. Obviously Gail has had a really colourful past, so that’s a big part of that Christmas Day episode, but she is there and she is going to leave the Street and it’s going to be so wonderful and sad.”
