Coronation Street star dies as tributes pour in from former co-stars

Coronation Street actor Geoff Hinsliff has died at the age of 87, ITV have confirmed. The soap star was best known for playing Don Brennan on the ITV programme from 1987 until 1997.

Born in Leeds, the English actor played three different roles on the cobbles. He has also been credited in shows such as Brass, Doctor Who, The Professionals and Holby City.

His cause of of death has not been confirmed. Many soap stars have paid tribute to Geoff on social media, including Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt.

She wrote: “Geoff was a lovely, quiet man who will be sadly missed by us all.

“His partnership with Lynne Perry was something rather special and they gave the viewers huge pleasure for many years.”

Whilst playing the role of Don Brennan on the soap, he was given multiple storylines including attempted murder and kidnap – making him one of the most iconic villains.

Most notably, he kidnaped Mike Baldwin’s wife Alma and drove their car into the canal. Despite both surviving, Don tried to run over Mike but he was killed off when his car crashed into a viaduct and exploded.
