Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Sean Wilson will be returning to Coronation Street as legendary character Martin Platt.
Following rumours of his comeback earlier this summer, the ITV1 soap has now confirmed Wilson has started filming as of Wednesday (July 24) and will be on screen in October.
The actor confirmed his return to the cobbles will last “a few months”. Martin’s return to Weatherfield is part of long-time co-star Gail Platt’s sendoff, as Helen Worth leaves Coronation Street after 50 years.
The soap has also confirmed the first details of Martin’s return storyline, as David Platt will be shocked when his father suddenly turns up at 8 Coronation Street.

David will be understandably suspicious about why Martin has suddenly decided he wants to be part of his family’s lives again, after walking away from Gail years ago.
“It was great to be invited back to Coronation Street again, to contribute to Helen’s exit story,” Sean said. “We’ll have a few months to catch up with Martin and Gail again, following the ebbs and flows of the unfolding storyline.
“Playing Martin has been a joy since day one and, in a way, I’ll be slipping back to where I left off, which no doubt will throw a spanner into the heart of the Platt family.

“It’s just like slipping on an old and comfortable jumper from the back of the wardrobe… I’m looking forward to reuniting with my TV family.”
It is not yet known whether Gail and Martin will revisit their romance, but producer Iain MacLeod has already confirmed that Gail’s departure won’t be under tragic circumstances.
“Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and disastrous marriages,” he said. “So, we thought what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that[‘s] what we’re doing.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
